On the last October, we had the pleasure of being a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) through an extended invitation. The seminar was attended by 80 students, who will be the next generation of veterinarian upon graduation.

The students today will be writing their next chapter in life tomorrow. We think it is highly important to educate them and raise their awareness towards modern software that enables them to maximise their efficiency business-wise. Like it or not, the times have changed, pen and paper are no longer preferred and encouraged, especially in younger generations. There are more effective ways to solve problems and record data. Despite being under the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and regarded as future vets, we spoke to the students as part of their Business Management programme.

Business knowledge and skills are essential to everyone. We shared some business struggles and how software can help to overcome, or better, prevent them. We also gave them an insight of running a vet business, a real-world example of the entire consultation process. From there, we distinguished several problems such as the amount of time needed to manually search for files, review and record data, down to producing the invoice for the customers and recording the usage of issued medication. By utilising technology, all of these can be achieved within a few minutes and clicks. Thanks to their tech-savvy nature, they do not find it a problem to understand how a software works and how the implementation can help them run their business with better efficiency than manual labour does.

As the seminar ends with a Q&A session, it seems that the main concern of software implementation in business for them was the data security and backup issues. It is understandable coming from them considering how their generation practically co-exists together with social media since young where there is a possibility of getting your data sold off to advertisers and technical problems that failed backup data retrieval. With this concern, we emphasised on the importance of ensuring software with highly secured database and password encrypted servers to prevent any possible data loss or leak.

We are passionate and determined in educating and raising the awareness of modern business software towards the younger generations because we believe that they are the future, our future and the future of this country. They are the turning point in modernising businesses and implementing the use of software in their daily lives. They are the drive of change we need to walk further away from pen and paper and nearer to effective and efficient business operations.
